Die Casting

What is Die Cast Tooling & Mold?

Die casting mold, also known as a tooling or die, is a tool used in the die casting process to create metal parts with high precision and accuracy. The mold is a hollow cavity that is used to shape molten metal into a specific form through a process known as die casting. Die casting molds are typically made from steel and have two distinct halves that come together to form the desired shape of the final part. When designing die casting molds, we consider complex details and features to ensure that the final parts meet the required specifications and tolerances. They can be reused to quickly and efficiently produce large quantities of identical parts.

Conventional Die Cast Tooling

Conventional die cast tooling comes in single cavities (onepart per cycle) or multiple cavities (more than one part percycle). Our conventional tooling process is designed withonly two slides rather than four and it provides customerswith efficiency in production and lower costs. When youchoose Dynacast as your die casting company you receive:
Quality built dies which efficiently cope with high volumeproductionAttention to the design of the dies, putting in as many ofthe part’s features as needed to avoid secondaryoperations. Our goal is always net shape first timeCareful planning to eliminate machining and reduce costsPredictive wear analysis to promote the longevity of ourdies, our tool designers predict what part of the die maywear out and insert this as a separate piece of steelCarefully planned water and cooling lines ensure efficientproduction

Multi-Slide Die Cast Tooling

Our proprietary multi-slide technology was originally invented in 1936. Since then, we have made continuous improvements to our tools and machines to offer the most advanced die-casting process. Multi-slide tooling is designed to use four (or more) perpendicular slides in the tool allowing us to create more complex and accurate castings. Multi-slide die casting offers a number of unique advantages, including.

Net shape first time, eliminating secondary operations like assembly and machining complex geometry and tight tolerances at high-speed forward-class productivity and lower total costs minimum part-to-part variation compared to standard multi-cavity diesMore compact tools that are less prone to parting-line variation and its negative effect on the finished part’s-dimensional tolerances

Die casting Tools design

Tool Design

All of our tools start with design for manufacturing, where we talk withour customers to make sure any shortfalls for the part can be vetted andcorrected before the tool is built. Modifying die features on the front endwill help to improve the final part but also increase the overall quality ofthe tool. During this design phase, we can also predict where the tool willwear and create removable inserts for the tool that can save time andmaintenance. We design our tools to run with minimal downtime.

Our dedicated team of over one hundred highly trained and experiencedengineers will work with you from early in your project to ensure yourcomponent is designed with manufacturing in mind, so you avoidexpensive secondary operations like machining or extra assembly steps. Our goal is always to determine the best design, materials and methodswhich will deliver optimum results for your product.

Professional Tool Design

Our engineers take precision to a whole new level- focusing on computer aidedengineering (CAE) toproduce rapid prototypesand tooling.

Manufacturability

Design for Manufacturing (DFM) is one of the best practices our engineers follow to ensure your pardoes not require expensive secondary operations which can often represent as much as 80% of thecomponent cost,. Our engineers use a DFl methodoloay that optimizes casting manufacturability whilepreserving functionality.

Part Improvement

Check and optimization products, including Ribs & Corners, Fillet Radii, Simplifying Die Cast Tooling, reducing weight and eliminating mass concentrations, effective and do our best to avoid features which increase manufacturing costs and cycle time.

Die Casting Tolerances

Typically, we follow international normative tolerance standards, such as those of North America, Europe, and Japan.
In the actual project, we will evaluate the requirements and characteristics of the product to find the best cost-effectiveness of the product.
Of course, extremely tight tolerances are gladly accepted because they are more valuable.

Stress and Strain

The stress and strain of die cast alloys are an important design consideration when creating a metal component, so, one must understand the stress and strain characteristics of die cast alloys and choose the allowable stresses before part failure.
How much can your part endure while still maintaining its integrity and functionality? While strength is typically important for our customers, sometimes a project requires a more ductile material. Aluminum alloys are not very ductile; although it has relatively high strength when it fails it is a sudden failure versus Zamak alloys that have a much higher UTS (ultimate tensile strength).
One of the great things about Our cast is that we offer a variety of different materials to fit a wide range of needs.
